The official word from ITI.
I recently returned from an impactful week in New Delhi at the 2026 India AI Impact Summit, where global companies, policymakers, and stakeholders across the AI ecosystem convened to discuss the future of AI. At the invitation of the government of India, ITI served as an official Summit partner, and we were proud to represent the global tech industry at this hugely successful event.
Building on the momentum of previous AI summits in Paris, Seoul and the UK, this year’s summit was a pivotal moment for the global AI conversation. It also served as a platform for India to highlight its expanding AI ecosystem, positioning itself both as a leading voice for the Global South and as an important contributor to the broader global AI landscape. The conversations in and around Bharat Mandapam reflected on how far international AI collaboration has come, explored opportunities for continued work, and set the stage for next year’s summit in Switzerland.
Here are my four key takeaways from the Summit:
1. Moving from AI Principles to Real-World Impact
Shifting the global conversation from one focused on responsible AI principles to one focused on how AI can drive real-world impact was a central theme at this year’s summit. While there were conversations that focused on the implementation of AI policy proposals, the Summit also highlighted the importance of expanding access to AI resources and using AI for scientific and economic development.
ITI played an active role in both parts of the conversation: contributing meaningful points to advance discussions on AI policy by organizing a C-suite panel examining how governance responsibilities can be coordinated effectively across the AI ecosystem, as well as partnering with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) to host a discussion on content provenance within India’s evolving AI governance framework and highlighting the way in which agentic AI can deliver benefits across sectors.
2. Landmark Global Agreements
India’s Summit also delivered several impactful policy outcomes. Including the U.S., more than 90 countries signed the New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact. The declaration demonstrates a shared commitment across a variety of nations to advancing responsible AI governance, increasing access to AI technology, and ensuring democratic values are at the foundation of AI development and deployment.
The Summit also yielded more specific outcomes and tools, including the Trusted AI Commonsa repository for sharing safety resources, evaluation methodologies and best practices that support secure AI development across borders. Global leaders also established voluntary guiding principles for skilling and reskilling the workforce for the AI era, along with guidance for implementing risk-based, interoperable AI governance.
Ensuring that society can broadly reap the benefits of AI can only be achieved by recognizing the need for continued global collaboration and dialogue, and these deliverables offer a firm foundation for the future of AI innovation.
3. Strengthening the U.S.-India Partnership
The U.S. and India also deepened their strategic partnership at the Summit.
India joining Pax Silica – a multilateral initiative designed to advance AI leadership and ensure resilient, reliable supply chains – was a summit highlight. India’s participation is an important step toward deepening cooperation on AI-related supply chains, facilitating investments and industrial partnerships between Pax Silica nations.
The U.S. and India also signed the AI Opportunity Partnership, signaling the establishment of a more robust partnership between the two nations on AI research and standards, and alignment on the importance of taking a pro-innovation approach to AI regulation.
Major private-sector investments backed those policy outcomes, signifying the private sector’s commitment to India’s technological development.
For example, Google unveiled the America–India Connect Initiative as part of a $15 billion, five-year investment in India’s AI infrastructure. This initiative will strengthen connectivity, cloud capacity and foundational infrastructure, enabling talent in India to build next-generation technologies. Salesforce also launched its India cohort of the “Salesforce Accelerator – Agents for Impact” to help nonprofits build AI agents. Meanwhile, OpenAI announced investments to develop 100 megawatts of data center capacity in India, expanding compute infrastructure that will be essential for AI development and deployment.
4. Continued U.S. Leadership is Essential
International discussions shape global AI norms and policy and play a key role in determining how countries and companies – including those in the U.S. – can remain competitive in global markets.
Moving ahead, as U.S. policymakers seek to advance their AI policy goals, continued leadership in global convenings must remain a top priority. Sustained U.S. leadership in international conversations ensures that emerging AI frameworks are shaped by democratic values and ultimately serve to strengthen U.S. competitiveness and strategic priorities.
India’s Impact Summit demonstrated AI’s transformative potential. The question now is how to build on the momentum coming out of the Summit, ensuring that the outcomes agreed upon actually deliver globally beneficial impact.
As an official India AI Impact Summit partner, ITI was proud to contribute to discussions that brought together government leaders and global industry representatives to help shape the future of AI. We look forward to continuing this influential work and building upon these important conversations at next year’s AI summit.
