CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A severe weather system moving through southeast Wyoming could bring tornadoes, damaging winds and softball-sized hail to Laramie County this afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne upgraded the region to an enhanced risk for severe storms, primarily along and east of the Interstate 25 corridor. Meteorologists reported that conditions are favorable for storms capable of producing hail up to 4 inches in diameter.
The weather system also brings an increased risk of flash flooding through Thursday. Heavy rainfall from repeating storms could cause sudden flooding, with recent wildfire burn areas facing the highest risk.
Storm threats will continue into Thursday as a cold front stalls near the area. Severe wind gusts along a rapid line of storms are possible across the eastern plains before the system begins to clear on Friday.
A drying and warming trend will follow over the weekend, with temperatures expected to reach the upper 80s by Saturday.
More on the weather is available from the NWS in Cheyenne.
