KENNEWICK, Wash. — Kennewick School District stands to benefit from a $11,300 grant to train staff on responsible artificial intelligence use and classroom support.
KSD said in a release that the Battelle Charitable Giving grant will pay for monthly professional learning for school staff. Battelle operates Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland.
The training will help staff use AI tools for individualized learning, feedback and data analysis tied to student literacy and math.
“Our teachers have a strong interest in AI, differentiation, and STEM integrated learning,” said Tina Brewer, director of professional learning and assessment for Kennewick School District. “With this grant funding, we can support staff to use AI to support student learning and prepare them for future success outside of the classroom.”
The district explained the project will center on secondary schools. It also connects to broader work across Kennewick schools to prepare students for life after high school.
District leaders said they expect students to build digital citizenship and critical thinking skills as staff become more confident with AI. Families will also get chances to see how AI can be used as a tool, which the district said could help strengthen digital literacy across the community.
The City of Pasco is hosting an open house on June 10, 2026, to share updates and gather feedback on the proposed Sylvester Street Overpass Pedestrian/Bicycle Access Project, which is partially funded and targeted for completion in 2027.
