The growing impact of artificial intelligence on education will be examined as part of a free conference later this month.
Jersey College for Girls is set to host the one-day ‘Education in an AI World’ event on Friday 26 June.
The conference will bring together experts, teachers, students and parents to discuss how AI is reshaping teaching and learning.
Sponsored by R3nquist, the workshop aims to equip attendees with the tools, insights and understanding needed to navigate an increasingly AI-driven world.
Separate programmes will run for educators and Year 12 students, before concluding with a presentation for parents.
The educators’ programme is open to teachers from all schools, and will feature keynote talks and workshops from three specialists in artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
Speakers include Dr Kaitlyn Regehr, associate professor of digital humanities at University College London, who is known for her work on digital and AI literacy and has advised on online safety legislation.
Also taking part is Amelia King, director of digital transformation at Dulwich College London and author of ‘Thinking with AI’, and AI consultant Dominik Lukes, who specialises in the use of generative AI in academic practice at Oxford University’s Centre for AI Competency.
Topics discussed throughout the day will include current research on AI literacy, practical approaches to teaching and learning with AI, and the evolving role of education in what organisers describe as a “cognitive revolution”.
A dedicated programme for Year 12 students will focus on how to use AI for learning, preparing for an AI-driven future, and the environmental impact of AI in schools.
At the end of the conference, Ms King will deliver a presentation for parents titled ‘Thinking with AI’.
JCG assistant headteacher Simon Lewis said: “The conference will explore critical themes including preparing students for an AI-driven future, the science of learning in the age of AI, the emerging cognitive revolution and innovative uses of AI in developing teaching materials.
“There will be a parallel conference for Year 12 students, exploring similar themes with a focus on learning in the present and future.”
