Find out if any familiar faces from the Despicable Me movies show up in Illumination’s latest Minions adventure.
**SPOILER WARNING: There are minor spoilers for Minions & Monsters below!**
Whenever the Minions reappear in movie theaters, fans of the Despicable Me/Minions franchise are immediately on the lookout for other Universe favorites, like Gru (Steve Carrell), his daughters Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan), and his wife, Lucy (Kristen Wiig).
The July 1 release (get tickets!) of Illumination’s Minions & Monsters, the third standalone Minions-centric animated feature, shines a Hollywood style spotlight on those yellow, denim-overall wearing creatures instead of the Despicable Me crew. The story unfolds in 1920s Los Angeles when the movie business is moving towards its Golden Age of Hollywood era.
Three new Minions — James, Henry and Ed — are enamored with making movies, so they decide to make a monster movie of their own, and use a spell book to conjure the scariest monster Hollywood has ever seen!
Minions & Monsters is set in the past, which suggests there’s no place for the Despicable Me characters. But maybe that’s not the case? Find out if there are cameos below.

Gru during the animated movie, Dispicable Me 2 (2013).
Yes! The credits kick-off a series of five vignettes centering on James and Henry conjuring some funny situations featuring many of the Despicable Me/Minions Universe’s familiar faces, including Gru.
In the first vignette, the Minions stumble upon a young Gru, who’s out walking his dog. They conjure a spell that turns the pet into the snarling creature Kyle Gru from the Despicable Me movies.
In the second vignette, the Minions conjure recurring villain Dr. Nefario, then they zap him into an endless portal.

In the third credits vignette, the Minions summon longtime Despicable Me/Minions Universe vet Kevin the Minion, and then turn him into a lady Minion with a wig, dress, and lipstick.
In the fourth vignette, a Minion and one of Gru’s daughters conjure the terrifying neon pink bunny monster which chases them until they subdue it with a hug.
Lastly, classic Minions Stuart and Bob use the spell book to change a Gru doppelgänger into a cat Gru, a sheep Gru, and a penguin Gru. As they’re laughing, the real Gru saunters up behind them, catching them in the act. The Minions freak out and turn doppelgänger Gru into a pig, and accidentally blasts real Gru’s clothes away. He covers the important parts and runs off screen to close out the extra scenes.
