Iran, Turkey Defense Ministers Discuss Regional Ceasefire, Call for Islamic Security Alliance – WANA News Agency

WANA (Jul 03) – Iran’s Acting Minister of Defense, Brigadier General Seyed Majid Ebnolreza, and Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler held a telephone conversation to review the latest regional developments, the implementation of the current ceasefire, and strategies to strengthen defense and security cooperation between the two nations.

During the call, General Ebnolreza addressed the recent ceasefire agreement, noting that the Islamic Republic signed it to help restore regional stability at the request of friendly neighboring countries. However, he expressed deep skepticism toward Western commitments.

“Given the long history of U.S. breach of promises, we have zero trust in the opposing side,” Ebnolreza said. “The Armed Forces of Iran remain on full alert, and any violation of the agreement will be met with a proportionate response.”

Highlighting Israeli operations in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran, the Acting Defense Minister asserted that American backing sustains and emboldens the Israeli regime. He urged Islamic nations to practice practical unity to halt these destabilizing policies.

General Ebnolreza reiterated Iran’s proposal to establish a “Security Alliance of the Islamic World,” suggesting the inclusion of key regional powers such as Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

Regional Ownership: The recent conflict proves that regional security must be maintained exclusively by regional states.

Foreign Interference: The presence of trans-regional forces does not bring security; instead, it fosters mistrust, ambiguity, and instability.

Persian Gulf: Security in the Persian Gulf must be managed entirely by its littoral states, as sustainable security cannot be imported from external powers.

He further warned against Israeli plans to establish so-called “security zones” in Syria and Lebanon, labeling them a prelude to widening the regional crisis. Additionally, he noted that recent U.S. statements regarding opening a new front against Hezbollah could plunge the entire region into fresh security hazards.

The Iranian official concluded that expanding defense and military ties between Tehran and Ankara is vital for collective regional stability, adding that Iran is ready to continue joint consultations with Turkey to build new, lasting security arrangements.

Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler expressed his condolences over the death of regional leaders, military commanders, and innocent civilians—specifically mentioning the school student casualties in Minab. He affirmed Ankara’s firm support for the full implementation of the ceasefire and the continuation of diplomatic channels.

Güler emphasized that regional peace can only be achieved through dialogue and collaboration among neighboring states.

“Turkey fully supports the territorial integrity of its neighboring countries,” Güler stated. “Ankara is ready to expand its cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran across various sectors, including counter-terrorism, border security, and regional affairs.”

The Turkish Defense Minister concluded by reiterating that regional integration is the sole path to sustainable peace, confirming that Turkey will back any initiative aimed at reducing tensions, combating terrorism, and reinforcing regional security.
