Three lakh rupees is what many Indian families pay for a small car down payment, a year of college fees, or a very nice wedding gift. This week, thousands of people in India spent it on a phone that folds in half, and they spent it so fast that Apple stores had nothing left for walk-in buyers on launch day.
Apple’s first foldable, the iPhone Duo, went on sale in India on Friday, October 23, 2026, after pre-orders opened on October 16. Reports say the entire first-week stock in India was pre-booked before the sale even began, with Apple’s flagship stores at BKC in Mumbai and Saket in New Delhi drawing the most bookings. Anyone ordering now is being shown delivery dates as late as January 2027.

iPhone Duo India Price: What Each Model Costs
There is no “affordable” version here. The iPhone Duo comes in four storage options in India:
- 256GB: ₹2,99,900
- 512GB: ₹3,24,900
- 1TB: ₹3,74,900
- 2TB: around ₹4.5 lakh (₹4,49,900 in most reports)
It comes in two colours, Star White and Night Sky. Apple has capped online orders at two units per customer, which tells you it expected resellers to show up. They did. Some grey-market sellers are reportedly asking up to ₹50,000 above the official price.
Launch offers listed by retailers include trade-in credit of up to ₹81,500 for an eligible older iPhone, instant cashback of up to ₹7,000 on select American Express, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank cards, and no-cost EMI for up to 12 months. Even with every discount stacked, you are still well above ₹2 lakh.
Why the iPhone Duo Sold Out So Fast
Part of it is pure demand. Apple fans have waited years for a folding iPhone while Samsung, Google and others have sold foldables since 2019. When Apple finally shows up late to a category, buyers tend to treat it as the “real” version.
The other part is supply. Mint has reported that Apple allotted roughly 6,000 units to India for the first week. Apple has not confirmed that figure, but if it is close, a sell-out was almost guaranteed in a country of iPhone-loving metros. Fresh orders now show delivery dates stretching into January 2027.
India is not alone. Reports say pre-orders outran supply across more than 70 countries, and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reportedly called Apple’s pre-order approach a “major mistake” because the company knew it could not keep up.
iPhone Duo Specs: What You Get for ₹3 Lakh
Open it up and you get a 7.6-inch inner screen. Close it and there is a 5.4-inch cover display, roughly the size of the old iPhone mini, for quick replies and UPI payments on the go. Both screens support ProMotion.
Inside is Apple’s A20 Pro chip, made on a 2nm process, running iOS 27.1 with Apple Intelligence and the new Siri. The camera setup is a 48MP dual system (main plus ultra-wide), with a 12MP front camera. Notably, there is no telephoto lens, so if you love zooming into concert stages, a regular Pro iPhone does that better.
Apple says the dual-battery design gives up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display. There is also MagSafe, USB-C, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Reports say Apple Pencil support may arrive with iOS 27.2.
What It Says About India’s Phone Market
India’s smartphone market is famously price-sensitive, and budget phones still dominate everyday shop counters. Yet a ₹3 lakh phone ran out in days. That gap shows how fast the premium end is growing, especially in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru and Pune, where Apple has its own stores.
It also puts pressure on Samsung, which has owned the foldable space in India for years with its Galaxy Z Fold line, priced well below the iPhone Duo. Apple is betting that people will pay a large premium for the logo and the ecosystem, and early numbers suggest that bet is working.
What We Don’t Know Yet
- Apple has not shared how many units it shipped to India or how many pre-orders it received.
- There is no official word on when walk-in stock will return to stores.
- Long-term durability of the hinge and folding screen in Indian heat and dust is still untested.
What This Means for You
- Don’t pay grey-market premiums. ₹50,000 extra buys you a few weeks, nothing more, and you may lose easy warranty support.
- Order only from official channels. Apple’s site, the Apple Store app, its six stores, or authorised retailers like Croma, Vijay Sales and Reliance Digital.
- Watch for scams. “Instant delivery” offers on Instagram or WhatsApp asking for advance UPI payments are a classic trap during hyped launches.
- Waiting is fine. First-generation foldables often get fixes in later versions. Reviews over the next two months will tell you more.
Our Take
The sell-out is real, but so is the scarcity. Selling out a few thousand phones is a different achievement from selling millions. Still, the fact that India’s first-week stock vanished at ₹3 lakh a piece says a lot about how much money is now flowing into premium gadgets here. For most of us, the smart move is to watch, read the reviews, and let the early adopters find the bugs.
