iOS 27 is the next major iPhone software version, here’s when to expect its release—including dates for the first betas and the public launch.
Apple’s iOS 26 software cycle isn’t over yet, with iOS 26.5 currently in testing. But it is winding down soon.
iOS 27 will be the next major software release for iPhone. And its full unveiling is only two months away.
Apple will debut iOS 27 on Monday, June 8 during the kickoff of WWDC 2026.
And based on historic patterns, it’s expected that the first iOS 27 developer beta will ship that same day.
The first iOS 27 developer beta likely won’t include all of the features that eventually ship when the public release date arrives. However, it will offer the vast majority of them.
Apple typically follows up with a more stable public beta of its new iOS version in July. So if you don’t want to risk trying the developer version of iOS 27, the public beta shouldn’t require too long of a wait.
Following a summer of beta testing, Apple always ships its major new iOS releases in September.
Thus, iOS 27’s release date is expected for September, likely mid-month.
Here are dates for Apple’s last few years of iOS releases:
Based on this pattern, it’s expected that iOS 27 will launch on or around Monday, September 14.
The official date is often revealed at Apple’s annual iPhone event, which usually happens the week prior.
Rumors so far point to iOS 27 being heavy on Siri and Apple Intelligence upgrades, plus smaller design updates and more.
Currently, there are no rumors about device compatibility. Apple dropped some supported iPhone models when iOS 26 arrived, so I wouldn’t expect iOS 27 to lose any additional models.
September still feels like a long ways off, but for many who follow Apple closely, June is the more significant date for iOS 27’s release—and it’s fast approaching.
Even though the public won’t be able to use it right away, June 8 will bring all of the details about what’s coming in iOS 27, and give developers an immediate opportunity to test the new software.
