Inside Front Porch’s new effort to use storytelling to redefine aging – McKnight's Senior Living

Front Porch Communities & Services is launching an ambassador program to redefine aging and share its vision of empowering older adults to live connected and fulfilled lives within its communities.
LPGA Hall of Famer Amy Alcott will serve as the first official Front Porch Ambassador, sharing her personal experience about aging on a national scale. When Front Porch CEO Sean Kelly met Alcott, a five-time women’s golf champion, he recognized that she was well-positioned to tell the story of aging as a period of growth, purpose and meaning.
“So often, the story being told about our sector is one of decline, but as we see everyday, that’s not the story we experience,” a Front Porch spokeswoman told McKnight’s Senior Living.
As the nonprofit California providers’ first and only ambassador, Alcott will represent Front Porch and its mission “to inspire and build community and cultivate meaningful relationships and experiences that respond creatively to changing needs.”
“At Front Porch, we believe that aging shouldn’t restrict you from pursuing your passions,” Kelly said in a news release. “Amy represents that vision authentically. She brings vibrant energy and a deep sense of purpose to everything she does, and we are honored to welcome her as the first-ever Front Porch ambassador.”

Filling the gap between senior living perception and reality
Alcott recently attended the US Women’s Open Championship at her home golf course, Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, sporting the Front Porch logo on her shirt, which the company said helped spark conversations about Front Porch, its communities and services, and the company’ s approach to aging.
She also attended Front Porch’s annual golf tournament, a yearly fundraiser and community-building event where one of the auction times was a meet-and-greet with Alcott after a round of golf at Rancho Mirage. Alcott also recorded an interview for an upcoming episode of the Front Porch Podcast, sharing her stories and thoughts on aging.
“Its very clear she’s a great person to carry the Front Porch message forward, both internally and externally,” the spokeswoman said.
Alcott said that serving as the first Front Porch ambassador reflects her belief that purpose, connection and growth don’t end at a certain age.
“In my book, no one should ever retire,” she said in a statement. “Your life just morphs into other avenues to embrace with passion. Front Porch is creating communities where people can continue their passions, and that’s something I truly respect.”
For other providers considering an ambassador program, Front Porch told McKnight’s Senior Living that it’s important to pay attention to the people and stories that resonate with the community, its values and goals. Explore the possibilities from there, the spokeswoman said.
