Veteran BJP leader George Kurian today resigned as a Union Minister after his six-year term in the Rajya Sabha expired and the party did not renominate him to the Upper House of Parliament. Divya Goyal from Ludhiana reported that in an order earlier this month, the Punjab and Haryana High Court cleared a 68-year-old man of allegations of murdering his daughter, after police discovered that she was alive and living in Canada.
Last year, Balbir Singh had also been acquitted in the alleged murder of his first wife, Harpal Kaur, whose whereabouts still remain unknown, with a local Ludhiana court ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish his guilt.
Balbir was a German citizen who was vising India in January 2013 for his father’s last rites when his wife Harpal Kaur, who was then in her early 50s, and his daughter Devinder Kaur went missing just four days apart.

President Droupadi Murmu will confer the Padma Awards for 2026 at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today in the second Civil Investiture Ceremony. There will be a total of 65 Padma Awards, including 2 Padma Vibhushan, 7 Padma Bhushan, and 56 Padma Shri awards.
The first Civil Investiture Ceremony was held on May 26, during which 66 Padma Awards were conferred.

Chaitar Vasava, an Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Gujarat has been sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment along with 8 others in a 2023 case related to the assault and extortion of forest officials.

Johnson TA in Bengaluru reports that former Janata Dal (Secular) MLA K S Lingesh and 10 others were arrested for allegedly granting legal ownership rights over 2,700 acres of government land to fictitious and ineligible inheritors in the Hassan region of South West Karnataka.
The Karnataka CID is investigating the case, which involves a criminal conspiracy to distribute land to fictitious beneficiaries. The Karnataka High Court criticised the actions of the Bagair Hukum Saguvali Samithi, stating that the committee acted illegally and without law.

Jayprakash S Naidu from Raipur is reporting that a school community hall which was being constructed by a minority community was demolished in Chhattisgarh’s capital on Tuesday morning.
Bulldozer action was taken on the two-storied hall, as over a 100 police personnel barricaded the road for the demolition.
While minority community leaders said the action was illegal and will challenge in court, senior civic officials from Raipur said the action was legal and they will release a statement after the demolition work is completed by evening.

Himanshu Harsh from Patna is reporting that Bihar politician Lalu Yadav’s son Tej Pratap Yadav has lodged a police complaint alleging that his personal assistant, Motilal Rai, stole cash, valuables, and electronic devices from his Patna residence on June 22.
Yadav alleged that approximately Rs 20 lakh in cash, which he described as party funds, along with a gold chain, a gold ring, four Sony pen drives, two hard disks, an iPad, a MacBook, a laptop and four iPhone 17 Pro Max handsets were stolen from an wardrobe.
Atiya Firdos in Bengaluru reports that a man who ran a guesthouse or PG facility was allegedly beaten to death following a dispute with two college students near Kasturinagar Main Road in the Karnataka capital on Monday evening.
Matle’s objection to the students washing their legs using tap water inside the PG compound, led to a physical confrontation in which he attempted to assault them with a cricket bat. The accused snatched the bat, and attacked him leading to his death.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing accusations of embezzlement of the donation fund at the Ram temple in Ayodhya handed over the preliminary report to Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister this morning.
The SIT members reached the Chief Minister’s Secretariat or Lok Bhawan and handed over the envelope containing the preliminary report with a summary of findings in a few pages around 11.30 am on Tuesday.

The ban, citing Telegram’s failure to curb the circulation of leaked NEET exam papers and other fraudulent activities, was upheld by the Delhi High Court. Telegram’s message-editing feature remains disabled until June 30.

On an X post by ANI, Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi is set to make her first official visit to India from 1-3 July 2026.
Although Guwahati was considered as a venue, the visit is expected to take place in Delhi due to Takaichi’s tight schedule and logistical challenges of visiting outside the capital.
A family of four, including two children, was found dead in an apparent suicide in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district, police said on Tuesday, according to the news agency PTI. The deceased were identified as Damodar (30), his wife Nirmala, their 13-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the family had been struggling with financial burdens. Police also said Nirmala had been undergoing treatment for complications related to a brain stroke for several years.
A handwritten note recovered from the house reportedly contained Damodar’s ATM PIN and bank account details, along with a request that the funds be used to cover his funeral expenses. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
The Delhi University (DU) has started its second round of seat allocation on June 22, 2026. Candidates who have applied for the two-year post-graduation course and have been offered a seat in the second round have to pay the fees within the deadline to confirm their seats. The deadline for seat acceptance is June 24, 2026, while the payment deadline is June 27, 2026. According to the university, 2,964 fresh allocations have been made for the second round under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) for the postgraduate programme. The round two allocation has been made live on the post-graduation admissions portal. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay in his address at the Legislative Assembly in Chennai renewed his demand for the abolition of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), arguing that the examination promotes inequality among students. Vijay said the state government remains loyal in its opposition to NEET and reiterated that there has been no change in Tamil Nadu’s position on the two-language policy or the use of Tamil as the state’s official language. Stressing that NEET creates an uneven playing field for aspiring medical students, the Chief Minister called for the exam to be scrapped altogether.

Responding to the shootings, Trump wrote on Truth Social to argue that crime could be reduced quickly with federal support, urging Illinois Governor J B Pritzker to seek his help. The President claimed that crime rates in Washington, DC, Memphis and New Orleans had fallen under measures because of his administration. “Why isn’t Governor Pritzker calling me for help?
