Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi signed multiple agreements during her recent visit to India. The agreements are part of the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit which was held at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
The summit is considered as a significant step towards to strengthen Indo-Pacific diplomacy. The agreements include major key sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), critical metals, clean energy and military hardware co-development.
Japan has played a significant role in India’s growth since Independence. In this meeting, India and Japan signed multiple agreements to secure economies and critical sectors in the current geopolitical scenarios and shifting global alliances. Japan committed over $ 10 billion in investment in various sectors.
AI emerged as the key pillar of the 16th summit. The agreements on AI are designed to merge India’s software sector with Japan’s precision engineering and industrial technology. It will deepen collaboration on building secure and trusted AI models.
Both Countries signed a joint investment into chip manufacturing materials and supply chain resilience. The agreement also provided the roadmap for India’s IT professionals and AI researchers to migrate to Tokyo.
India and Japan signed the first-ever joint defence co-development hardware project. It aims to strengthen communication security, radar capabilities and anti-submarine warfare coordination for Indo-Pacific Region.
The Indian Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force signed a pact to co-manufacture the naval radio antenna called Unicorn’
The defence pact will also expand the scale of the current joint military exercises between the countries like Dharma Guardian and JIMEX.
Considering the current geopolitical situation around the world and rising economic insecurities both countries signed the agreements on critical minerals to ensure a constant supply of the critical metals which are necessary for the manufacturing of electronics, electric vehicles, batteries and defence components.
India and Japan signed an agreement to initiate a joint task force to strengthen energy security. It targets the strategic LNG stockpiling and real-time information sharing for future uncertainty.
Also lunched a Bio-Gas Initiative to promote green energy. The initiative plans to establish 1000 Biogas and organic fertiliser plants across rural India. It boost local agricultural livelihoods and clean energy alternatives.
The initiative will be technologically backed by Japan.
The summit emphasised the importance of a technologically integrated India-Japan alliance and considered the future economic prospects.
Both countries also expanding the China+1 investment strategy by announcing fresh investment in India’s manufacturing sector to diversify their supply chains outside of mainland China.
