ICE moves detainees from Alligator Alcatraz in Florida, citing hurricane season concerns – Gulf Coast News and Weather

A spokesperson with United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement said on Tuesday that ICE and the State of Florida are relocating detainees from Alligator Alcatraz to other locations.
ICE is citing hurricane season as the reason they are transferring detainees to other facilities.
Reports from The New York Times suggested the facility could begin winding down this month. However, the Department of Homeland Security previously told Gulf Coast News, “daily operations at Alligator Alcatraz continue as usual.”
Gov. Ron DeSantis has repeatedly said the detention center was always intended to be a temporary facility, but he has not directly confirmed a closure date. He also has said the future of the detention center depends on the federal government.
