Sumner County, Kan. (KWCH) – Noon Update: The Kansas Department of Transportation’s map with updated highway conditions across the state, shows highway closures in Sumner County due to flooding, including a pair of sections of U.S. 81. The highway is closed from U.S. 166 to U.S. 160, in Wellington and from KS 55 (south of Mulvane) to KS 53.
Also in Sumner County, KS-55 remains closed near Belle Plaine.
In Sedgwick County, an online dashboard shows roads currently closed due to flooding. As of noon Friday, the map shows several closures southwest of Wichita, including a few rural roads east of Clearwater.
Update: Interstate 35, the Kansas Turnpike, reopened in Sumner County after flooding shut down northbound lanes.
Remaining in Sumner County, KS-55, near Belle Plaine, is still closed due to flooding.
Throughout south-central Kansas, we’re hearing reports of flooded roads. First responders remind you to never try driving through a flooded or barricaded road.
In Wichita, there are reports of stalled vehicles in several areas, a problem that impacted drivers throughout the city late Thursday night.
Multiple roads are closed Friday morning as heavy rain and thunderstorms have prompted flooding in several communities in south-central Kansas.
According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, northbound lanes of I-35 are closed between mile markers 19 and 29 due to water over the road. Drivers are being detoured at Wellington on U.S. 160, where they will go north on U.S. 77, then take K-15 to reenter I-35 in Wichita.
U.S. 81 is also closed north of Wellington, along with K-55 east of Belle Plaine.
