From WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY
Wood County continues to be under an “extreme heat warning” through today, July 3, until 8 p.m. Today, actual air temperatures will be 95°F, with the heat index at 105°F.
During this time, everyone is encouraged to check on their family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to make sure they are not showing any signs or symptoms of heat illnesses and call 9-1-1 if needed.
The local area has been upgraded to a “slight risk” (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather this afternoon and evening.
Scattered thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon and this evening. While the coverage of thunderstorms doesn’t look widespread for later today, storms that do develop may be severe with damaging winds being the primary severe weather concern.
Additional chances for showers and thunderstorms continue through the weekend but with lower confidence in coverage, severity, and timing of storms after today.
Wood County EMA will continue to provide updates as deemed appropriate.
