The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday raised questions over the the Anti Corruption Branch’s (ACB) “failure” to arrest the main accused in a corruption case involving alleged irregularities in the Health Department.
Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj said the main accused has neither been arrested nor questioned despite being repeatedly named in the ACB’s FIR.
“Chief Minister Rekha Gupta must explain why Rajiv Rangeela, the main accused, has not been arrested despite his name appearing on every page of the FIR. The ACB’s FIR clearly shows that Rajiv Rangeela, in collusion with the government, caused a ₹650-crore loss to the exchequer,” he said.
The AAP leader alleged that Mr. Rangeela was the real owner of all the private companies that secured tenders at inflated rates.
“He is involved in all the deals. Why are the government and the ACB not talking about him?” Mr. Bharadwaj said.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh accused the government of being involved in the alleged irregularities and said his party would take the issue to every household in Delhi.
Hitting back, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Malhotra alleged that AAP was trying to portray a “clear case of corruption by officials” as a financial scam “in order to revive itself politically”.
Mr. Malhotra alleged that Mr. Bharadwaj failed to provide any evidence of corruption beyond a few lakhs when reporters asked him for details and figures to support the alleged ₹650-crore scam.
“The truth behind what AAP leaders are calling a scam is that as soon as the Chief Minister received information about corruption by officials in collusion with contractors, she herself ordered an ACB investigation into the matter, following which arrests were made,” he said.
