Google has officially shut down its Pixel Studio application with the rollout of a recent software update
The AI-powered image generation platform initially launched in 2024 alongside the Pixel 9 smartphone
Users opening the discontinued app are now prompted to utilize Gemini or Nano Banana for their image creation needs
Google has officially shut down its Pixel Studio app, discontinuing the dedicated artificial intelligence image generator less than two years after its initial debut. The latest software update effectively bricks the platform, officially sending the program to the tech giant’s ever-growing graveyard of retired applications.
Originally introduced in 2024 to coincide with the release of the Pixel 9 smartphone, Pixel Studio served as a centralized hub for AI creativity. The app allowed users to input text prompts for rapid image generation and provided tools to create custom stickers from pre-existing personal photos. However, Google formally signaled the end of the platform earlier this year, slowly stripping away core functionalities over the past few months, including the complete removal of its AI-driven photo editing suite.
With the final software update currently rolling out to devices globally, the main interface of the defunct application now displays a prominent button redirecting users to the Google Play Store to download Gemini. This strategic shutdown consolidates the brand’s expansive artificial intelligence efforts, firmly pushing its mobile user base toward its flagship Gemini platform and suggested alternative tools like Nano Banana for ongoing generative needs.
