Tesla has officially started rolling out its much-anticipated Spring 2026 Update, and it is bringing a serious intelligence boost to the cabin. One of the headline features of software version 2026.14 is the debut of the "Hey Grok" wake word, which finally allows owners to interact with the integrated assistant hands-free.
According to the official Tesla account on X, you can say “Hey Grok” and proceed to ask the assistant a question or set a location-based reminder. To get started, owners simply need to enable the feature in Controls > Audio. While Musk first teased this functionality last summer, its arrival in North America and other regions that support Grok, including Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Europe, marks a major milestone in making the car’s infotainment system feel more like a living assistant rather than just a computer.
The most practical part of this update is the new location-based reminder system. You can now tell your car, “remind me to get my gym bag out of the frunk when I get home,” or "remind me to pick up milk when I'm near home." This level of spatial awareness makes Grok significantly more useful for daily errands. While we are still waiting for Grok to be able to control FSD directly or replace the legacy voice command system, these lifestyle features are a great step forward.

Interestingly, this global version doesn't seem to include the per-seat activation controls that recently launched in China. That functionality allows the car to actually tell which passenger is speaking, enabling use cases like adjusting individual climate zones. For now, Western owners will have to settle for a more general wake word, though you can still dismiss the assistant by simply saying "goodbye" (or a variant, like "talk to you later").
Beyond the AI improvements, 2026.14 is a massive release on par with Tesla’s famed Holiday Updates. It introduces an all-new Self-Driving app that consolidates subscriptions, tutorials, and those detailed usage stats we’ve been seeing in early European builds. Owners can now track their FSD mileage and "streaks" directly on the touchscreen.
The update also brings several visual and safety refinements, including:
New Pet Mode: Replacing the old Dog Mode, owners can now choose specific icons for dogs or cats (or even hedgehogs!).
Accent Light Syncing: For newer models with ambient lighting, the accent strips will now flash red when an object is in your blind spot or to prevent "dooring" incidents while parked.
Improved Visualizations: A higher-fidelity vehicle visualization in the UI and better rain/snow renderings on weather maps.
This update shows Tesla’s commitment to making its software stack as modern as possible. By integrating Grok more deeply into the driving experience, Tesla is preparing for a future where the car is a fully autonomous robotaxi that needs to communicate naturally with its passengers.
Whether you're using Grok to configure your navigation or just setting a reminder for your groceries, the 2026.14 update makes the car feel much more intuitive. As FSD v15 looms on the horizon, these incremental improvements to the user interface are building the foundation for a truly hands-off future.
