CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Thursday we took questions and concerns about AI data centers to federal energy leaders visiting Chattanooga.
Congressman Chuck Fleischmann gave us his stance on data centers earlier this week, promising his constituents would not see energy rate hikes as a result of data centers.

James Danly, the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Energy, spoke in Chattanooga at a summit on energy production in the Tennessee Valley.
Danly says the Department of Energy is leading the way to make sure energy consumers are insulated from changes brought by data centers.
Danly told us that the Trump administration thinks that if data centers are done responsibly, then they shouldn’t negatively impact citizens.

In March President Trump signed a proclamation called the 'repair protection pledge' to help taxpayers from getting utility tax hikes from data centers.
Through this proclamation, Danly says consumers should be insulated by the price hikes…

We've been covering the different data centers in our area and the concerns of residents in those communities.
In Dalton, data center operator Core Scientific has four facilities in the area. Their website says they consume a combined 192 megawatts of power.

When we spoke with Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, he said TVA is experiencing increased pressure from rising power demand.
However, he believes rates won't change with out citizen input.
