A 28-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in Faridabad’s Jawahar Colony while on a video call with his girlfriend, in a deeply distressing incident that has shocked the locality.
Police said the deceased, identified as Nikhil, was in a relationship with a woman from Sanjay Colony for nearly five years. The couple had reportedly been planning to get married, and discussions between their families had also taken place. However, sources said that in recent weeks, the woman had begun refusing marriage, leaving Nikhil mentally distressed.
According to preliminary information, the two were chatting on WhatsApp on Sunday evening around 5 pm, following which Nikhil initiated a video call. During the call, he allegedly hung himself inside his room. The woman, who witnessed the act on video, immediately alerted Nikhil’s friends.
His friends rushed to the house and found him hanging. At the time of the incident, Nikhil was alone at home. His father had passed away earlier, while his mother had travelled to Ujjain. His younger brother, Saurabh, was also not present at the house.
Upon receiving information, the police reached the spot, took custody of the body, and sent it to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Officials said no suicide note has been recovered so far. “We are investigating all aspects of the case, including the circumstances leading to the incident,” a police officer said.
The incident has once again raised concerns over mental health and emotional distress among youth, particularly in cases involving relationship conflicts.
