As 2026 continues, so does the tale of layoffs that continue to be a scourge across the industry. In a new report from Kotaku’s Rebekah Valentine, Electronic Arts has set off another round of layoffs, following an email sent out to customer support last week, and various public posting from employees.
The employees in these cases seem to be people working in Electronic Arts departments of recruitment, customer support, trust and safety, and IT teams with it impacting some remote workers in the US, and a number of individuals in their Hyderabad, India office – some of whom at worked at the company for over 10 years. We don’t know how many employees are being laid from these actions. In the email sent to customer support it included a bit that read:
“As part of this evolution, we are making or proposing to make changes to some roles, creating new roles, and moving certain work to different teams, locations, or service partners.”
This news comes as Electronic Arts is attempting to sell itself to a private consortium, made up of the Saudi Arabia PIF Fund, Silver Lake, and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners for $55 Billion.
This isn’t the only round of layoffs we’ve seen this year from Electronic Arts either, as we’ve seen the Battlefield group lay off a similarly unknown number of employees earlier this year despite Battlefield 6 being the best selling game last year and outdoing Activision’s Call of Duty. Skate developer Full Circle also laid off a unnumbered staff in February, and the last few years have had multiple rounds of layoffs at Electronic Arts. It always is talking about ‘evolving’ or ‘transforming’, but for 3 plus years we’ve seen EA consistently taking the same action of just laying off people across its firm, regardless of relations to success.
