Digg relaunches as AI news aggregator and prioritizes AI stories
A quieter Digg is back with an AI-first ranking to spotlight influential voices and trending stories, aiming to rebuild trust and traffic for publishers.

Digg is returning to the media market as an AI news aggregator that places the ranking of AI-related publications at the center.
The Digg reboot ended in March after the company pivoted its development direction: it struggled with bot traffic and failed to distinguish itself from competitors in the market.
The startup cut staff and returned to its original concept. Kevin Rose, a partner at True Ventures, returned in April to full-time development of a new version of Digg.
On Friday evening, the founder shared a link to the updated Digg – it doesn’t look like a Reddit clone, but more like an update that brings back the former spirit of a news aggregator.
The new concept puts the ranking of content first: AI news is the priority, and the main goal is to track the most influential voices and showcase materials worth attention. If this works, Digg will expand to other topics.
On the homepage, top stories are presented in four blocks: the most popular story, a post with growing discussion, the fastest-growing post, and an “In case you missed it” teaser.
Next comes the ranking of the top stories of the day by engagement metrics – views, comments, reactions, and saves. It’s worth noting that Digg doesn’t generate these data on its own: the platform in real time ingests content from X and applies sentiment analysis, clustering, and signal detection to determine the significance of materials.
As Kevin Rose noted on X, when OpenAI CEO Sam Altman engages with an AI story, it usually triggers a chain of discussion and spread of the topic. The new Digg will be able to track such activity.
This may interest data analysts: it demonstrates the impact of engagement on X in graphs, but it’s not yet clear whether Digg will find steady use among ordinary users beyond its own discussions.
If Digg finally gains momentum, the service could become a useful source of traffic for publishers hit by Google’s algorithm changes and by AI overviews – AI-generated summaries that sometimes answer users’ questions even before they click through to the site.
Right now Digg aims to become a platform that aggregates high-quality AI news, and, over time, expand to other topics, offering an analytical and user-friendly interface for users.
