Doctor arrested
New Delhi: A dermatologist has been arrested for allegedly murdering his domestic help after the body of a woman was found in a pool of blood on the terrace of a building in South Delhi’s upscale Mount Kailash area on Thursday.
According to media reports, the accused doctor, identified as a dermatologist, was found at the crime scene and taken into custody by police. It was found that the 45-year-old woman was allegedly bludgeoned and knifed to death.
While the exact motive behind the killing remains unclear, investigators suspect a personal dispute may have led to the incident.
Speaking to PTI about the incident, the police officials confirmed, “The doctor was found at the crime scene and has been arrested. During preliminary questioning, he admitted to attacking the woman, identified as ***, with a bat and subsequently stabbing her with a knife.”
Police received a PCR call at around 11.30 am, reporting that a woman had been murdered on the terrace of a neighbouring building and was lying blood-soaked at the spot.
“A police team rushed to the spot and found the victim dead. A man in his 50s was also present near the body when they arrived,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari told PTI.
The accused was immediately apprehended and questioned to ascertain the motive behind the killing. DCP Tiwari further informed PTI that the accused was identified as a dermatologist, and the victim, employed as his domestic help, had been working for him for a long time.
“The main motive behind the murder is not clear, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the motive,” he said.
Investigators suspect that the crime may have stemmed from a personal dispute, though all angles are being examined. The police are also trying to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the murder. A crime team was called to inspect the scene and collect forensic evidence. CCTV footage from nearby buildings was scanned, and locals were questioned to gather information about the incident.
When asked why he committed the crime during questioning, police claimed the doctor, as per the Indian Express, told them that the woman brought “bad energy” to the house.
During interrogation, the doctor claimed that he committed the crime because the househelp practiced black magic, causing disturbance of peace in the house. He claimed that his entire family was distressed due to the black magic, reports NDTV.
However, the police said that the doctor is continuously giving different statements.
The doctor had been suffering from depression for a long time, officials said.
The body was sent for postmortem, and a case was registered, police said, adding that detailed questioning of the accused is in progress. The officer added that multiple teams are questioning the accused.
Additionally, the bat and the knife used in the crime were seized from the spot.
