MAGNOLIA, Del.– Delaware State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Kent County Monday night.
According to police, troopers were called to East Cherry Drive in Magnolia on reports of a domestic incident at about 9:15 p.m. on June 29. On the way to the scene, authorities say they learned 37-year-old Kristopher Glanden, of Frederica, was reportedly suicidal and was attempting to enter his ex’s home with a gun. The ex and other family members were sheltered inside at the time.
Upon arrival, DSP says they found Glanden in the front yard and that he refused to comply with officers’ commands. Glanden then pointed a handgun at the troopers, according to DSP, and two troopers opened fire. Glanden died at the scene despite first aid efforts. Investigators say a loaded 9mm handgun was recovered from the scene.
DSP’s Homicide Unit have assumed the investigation per DSP operating procedures and the involved troopers have been placed on administrative leave pending a use-of-force investigation.
DSP said the scene was cleared by 3:30 a.m. on June 30.
