Dozens of cars burned at an auto salvage yard in Sacramento County on Friday.
KCRA 3’s Anahita Jafary was at the scene at Recycle and Fitzgerald roads for several hours, where officials blocked off the roadway as fire crews put out the flames. Nearly 70 firefighters responded to the fire.
A KCRA 3 sky camera facing Rancho Cordova captured a large plume of smoke around 6:30 p.m. LiveCopter 3 was over the scene as well, where ground and air crews were deployed.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said it was a combined commercial and grass fire that has burned 50 to 100 cars. The fire caused the spread of toxic smoke from the burning vehicles, but strong winds were able to clear the smoke from the area, officials said.
