YOUNGSTOWN — A Youngstown man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting that occurred overnight Wednesday on Youngstown’s South Side.
22-year-old Darius Smith was charged in the Mahoning County Municipal Court on Thursday, with a video arraignment set for 1:30 p.m. Friday, court records show.
According to a Youngstown police detective, the shooting took place just before 2 a.m. Wednesday inside a home on East Dewey Avenue.
One victim was shot and died from their injuries. Officers covered the doorway of the house before emergency personnel removed the body from the residence.
Crime scene tape was stretched outside the home, and several evidence markers could be seen at the end of the driveway.

Investigators said they do not know how or why the shooting occurred.
The victim’s name has not yet been released.
The investigation is ongoing.
