SANDPOINT — Following the signing of House Bill 583 regarding short-term rental regulations, the Bonner County planning department was approved to terminate a contract with its short-term rental permitting software.
A formal notice, signed by Commissioner Ron Korn, advised the county would no longer contract with Deckard Technologies for short-term rental permitting software and related services, effective July 10, 2026.
House Bill 583 was signed into law March 16 by Gov. Brad Little and will be effective on July 1. H.B. 583, which was sponsored by Rep. Jordan Redman, R-Coeur d’Alene and Rep. Todd Lakey, R-Nampa, most notably states that cities and counties are not allowed to impose regulations on short-term rentals that differ from single residential dwellings.
The bill passed both chambers of the Idaho Legislature by majority vote.
“No county or city shall enact or enforce any covenant, condition, restriction, or contract that regulates a short-term rental except as allowed in this section,” HB 583 states. “No county or city shall require a license, fee, permit, certification, or registration to operate a short-term rental.”
The city of Sandpoint made similar changes to reflect H.B. 583, where city council members reluctantly repealed its short-term rental ordinance to comply with state law.
