New Delhi, June 16: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued an official clarification dismissing recent media reports that suggested India was actively pursuing a proposed deep-sea energy pipeline connecting Gujarat with Oman and other Gulf nations.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry categorically stated that no such proposal, often referred to in media reports as the Middle East-India Deepwater Pipeline (MEIDP), is currently under consideration.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation in sections of the media regarding a potential underwater energy corridor linking India with key Gulf countries. According to the Ministry, there are no ongoing discussions, negotiations, or consultations related to such a project with Oman or any other Gulf nation at any level within the Ministry.
“The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas wishes to categorically clarify that no such proposal is currently under consideration by this Ministry,” the statement said.
It further emphasized that there are “no active discussions or negotiations with Oman or any other Gulf countries on this project.”
The Ministry noted that the clarification has been issued to dispel any misinformation and put an end to speculation surrounding the reported project.
The statement underscores the government’s position that reports regarding the proposed Middle East-India Deepwater Pipeline are not based on any official initiative currently being pursued by the Ministry.
Industry observers believe the clarification is intended to ensure accurate public understanding of India’s energy infrastructure plans and international energy partnerships.
