Celebrating Anjana Om Kashyap: The face of modern Hindi television news – Exchange4Media

Few journalists manage to become synonymous with the medium they work in. Over the last two decades, Anjana Om Kashyap has emerged as one of the most recognisable and influential faces in Hindi television journalism, building a career defined by consistency, visibility and an unmistakable on-screen presence.
Born in Ranchi, Anjana’s journey into journalism was anything but conventional. After studying at Delhi University and later pursuing journalism at Jamia Millia Islamia, she entered the profession at a time when television news was undergoing a dramatic transformation. What followed was a career that would mirror the rise of 24-hour Hindi news television itself.
She began her professional journey with Doordarshan in 2003, learning the fundamentals of reporting and newsroom operations before moving through some of the country’s leading news organisations, including Zee News and News 24. Each stint added new dimensions to her journalistic identity, helping her develop the sharp interviewing style and commanding screen presence that audiences would later come to associate with her.
Her defining chapter began with Aaj Tak, where she evolved from a reporter and anchor into one of the network’s most prominent editorial voices. Over the years, she has anchored some of the country’s most watched news programmes, covered major elections, reported from the ground during critical national events and conducted interviews with leading political figures. Her ability to switch seamlessly between field reporting and prime-time anchoring has remained one of her strongest professional attributes.
What distinguishes Anjana Om Kashyap’s career is her longevity in an industry where public attention shifts rapidly. Through changing political landscapes, technological disruption and the evolution of audience habits, she has remained a constant presence in Hindi news broadcasting. For millions of viewers, her voice has become part of the daily news experience, reflecting the enduring power of television journalism in India.
Her contribution has also been recognised through several industry honours, including awards for anchoring and excellence in television journalism. Yet perhaps her biggest achievement lies in the influence she has had on a generation of aspiring journalists who grew up watching Hindi news evolve into a mass medium. As Anjana Om Kashyap celebrates her birthday, her journey stands as a testament to perseverance, adaptability and the enduring relevance of strong journalistic storytelling.
