CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The City of Cheyenne is accepting applications for the 2026–27 Mayor’s Youth Council, during which students will have opportunities to work with the mayor and other officials.
The press release states that the council is “a program for community-minded young people who are interested in learning more about city government, civic trusteeship, and community leadership.” It also helps students with their college applications by providing a community-focused leadership opportunity.
Selected students will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of activities and programs. Some of the highlights include team building, working one-on-one with the mayor and other city officials, addressing issues affecting youth and the community, learning about city departments and how they function, and touring city facilities.
Typically, two meetings are held each month and the estimated time commitment is four to five hours a month.
Positions are currently open for high school youth in grades 9–12. Individuals interested must currently attend school or be homeschooled and must reside in Cheyenne. The 2026–27 term will begin in August 2026 and conclude in May 2027.
The Mayor’s Youth Council Selection Committee will review the applications and interview selected candidates. Successful applicants will be notified by August.
Applications are available at www.cheyennecity.org/myc and can also be picked up from career/counselor offices at public junior and senior high schools.
The deadline for applications is Friday, Aug. 7 at 4 p.m.
