A seat opened up on the (BV) Board of Education (BoE) after Board Director Brett Mitchell resigned in what some might call a dramatic fashion mid-meeting on Monday, June 22. Applications for a candidate to fill this seat are now available.
The BV School Board will appoint an individual to fill the vacant position and complete the term. The appointment would conclude once November 4, 2027, election results are received and certified.
To be eligible for appointment, a person must:
Eligible residents interested in serving on the BV school board can pick up and return an application by Wednesday, August 5. Applications can be obtained and returned at the BV School District Office at 113 North Court Street. Returned applications should be addressed to the attention of Designated Election Officer Hannah Jayne.
The school board will interview applicants before deciding on the appointment. This interview is currently scheduled for a work session beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 10.
Addresses included in District 1 include rural areas to the north to the Lake County line, northeast to the Park County line, and northwest to the Gunnison County line. It also includes addresses in a narrow strip along Highway 24 starting at Arkansas Street and moving north.

School Board Director Joseph Teipel was recently appointed to fill the seat held by Norm Nyberg, who passed away in March. Monday, June 22, was Teipel’s first official meeting with the board.
