At Apple’s annual WWDC conference this week, the company unveiled the new features coming to iOS 27, with some major Siri AI updates that add functionality to Apple Music. There’s redesigned artist and album pages and other aesthetic tweaks, but the biggest changes come in the form of AI integration and overall performance improvements.
The new Siri AI system integrates with Apple Music, enabling users to ask Siri for information about an artist and then transition to playing one of their songs with natural commands, mid-conversation.
The AutoMix feature, which uses artificial intelligence to create souped-up transitions from one song to the next using key and tempo matches, gets some upgraded algorithms to generate new transitions, making transitions between different tracks even more seamless.
The update to iOS 27 also includes a variety of performance improvements to Apple Music, including faster loading and faster streaming. This should make the service more responsive overall.
Lyrics Translation will also be expanded to seven new languages, including English to French, German, Italian, Korean, and Spanish; French to English; and Japanese to English. Lyrics Pronunciation will also expand to include five new pairings, including Arabic to Romanized Arabic, English to Hangul, English to Katakana, Japanese to Hangul, and Mandarin Chinese to Katakana.
“We’re excited to bring powerful new features and intelligence to hundreds of millions of users across Apple services, making their experiences even more useful and fun,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services.
The new features are available for testing now through the Apple Developer Program, with a public beta available through the Apple Beta Software Program next month.
