The body of an American Airlines flight attendant was found on a Florida beach with injuries indicating she had been struck by a boat, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said.
Kellie Melinda Williams, 31, was found dead off the shore of Hollywood Beach in South Florida, the FWC confirmed to USA TODAY in an email.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague,” American Airlines told USA TODAY in a statement. “Our thoughts and support are with her family, loved ones and colleagues at this time.”
Here’s what to know about the incident and ongoing investigation.
According to the FWC, Williams’ body was found by two fishermen, who alerted the Hollywood Police Department around 8 p.m. ET on June 3. The department then notified the conservation commission a day later.
The Hollywood Police Department did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for more information.
Williams sustained injuries consistent with a vessel strike, FWC said, adding that their investigation is ongoing and a full report will be available when it is complete.
Williams may have been snorkeling or diving when she was struck by the boat, ABC News reported, citing investigators.
“The FWC would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Kellie Williams during this difficult time,” the agency said in a statement.
