On March 1, Russian-language (1;2;3;4) and Georgian-language (1;2) accounts shared photos of Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and his son Yair Netanyahu. According to the authors of the posts, journalists allegedly spotted them in the United States.
Some Russian-language accounts claim that, amid the current developments, Netanyahu is hiding his family in the U.S. and that the photos published by journalists are the worst possible advertisement for Israel’s “Iron Dome.”
Visual manipulation is spreading on Facebook – the photo collage does not depict footage taken amid the current events. The image of Sara Netanyahu is AI-generated, while the photo of Yair Netanyahu has been circulating for years.
Sara Netanyahu’s Photo Is AI-Generated
The photo of the Israeli prime minister’s wife, Sara Netanyahu, has been circulating since early 2026 and was generated using artificial intelligence. The use of AI is evidenced by visual flaws noticeable in the image.
In addition, a previously circulated photo of Benjamin Netanyahu’s son, Yair Netanyahu, was used to create the image. Using artificial intelligence, Sara Netanyahu’s photo was generated on the same balcony and in the same pose.
Myth Detector verified the circulated photo of Sara Netanyahu using the AI-detection tool AI or Not. According to the analysis, the image is likely to be a deepfake.
The Hive Moderation tool showed that the image was generated by AI with a 99.8% probability and is a deepfake with an 86.2% probability.
In January 2026, Reuters also fact-checked the fabricated image of Sara Netanyahu. They used Google’s identification tool SynthID, which detects hidden markers embedded in images created or edited by Google’s AI models. The tool confirmed that the image was AI-generated. In communication with Reuters, the prime minister’s spokesperson clarified that Sara Netanyahu was indeed in Miami, but the image itself was not real.
Yair Netanyahu’s Photo Has Been Circulating for Years
The photo of the Israeli prime minister’s son, which is circulating alongside the image of his wife, has been published on social media and websites for years. For example, the Daily Mail published this photo in 2024.
Accordingly, these images were not taken in March 2026. Sara Netanyahu’s photo is AI-generated, while Yair Netanyahu’s photo has been circulating since 2024.
On February 28, the United States and Israel bombed military and state facilities in Iran. On March 1, it became known that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed during the bombing. U.S. President Donald Trump called on Iran’s armed forces to lay down their weapons and urged Iranian citizens to rise up against the government. In response, Iran bombed U.S. allied countries in the region with ballistic missiles and drones.
