If you put in a bid for the Jio Platforms IPO last week, Monday is the day you find out whether you actually got any shares. And going by how the bidding went, plenty of retail investors are going to see a “not allotted” message.
Jio Platforms, the Reliance Industries telecom and digital arm, ran its ₹30,213 crore IPO from October 21 to 23. The issue was subscribed about 22 times overall, the basis of allotment is due on October 26, and the shares are set to list on the BSE and NSE on October 28. Grey market chatter is pointing to a listing pop of around 20%, though that number is unofficial.

Jio Platforms IPO Subscription: Big Money Piled In
The issue was fully booked within hours of opening on day one, and demand kept building until the close on Thursday evening.
Institutional buyers did most of the heavy lifting. The qualified institutional buyer (QIB) portion was subscribed about 70 times by the end of the final day. Non-institutional investors, the HNI crowd, bid around 14 times their quota. Retail investors subscribed about 2.7 times.
The quota reserved for Reliance Industries shareholders drew bids of roughly 7.6 times, and the employee portion about 2.9 times.
One small caution: the final numbers vary a little between trackers. Chittorgarh, for example, shows the overall figure at 21.36 times, likely because of a different data cut-off. Either way, the message is the same. Demand was far higher than supply.
Before the issue even opened, Jio raised ₹8,109.85 crore from 212 anchor investors, a list that included LIC and BlackRock.
Jio IPO Allotment Status: How to Check by PAN
Once the basis of allotment is finalised on October 26, you can check your status in three common ways:
- KFin Technologies website: Go to the registrar’s IPO status page, pick “Jio Platforms” from the list, and enter your PAN, application number or DP/client ID.
- BSE website: Use the “Status of Issue Application” page, choose Equity, select the issue and enter your PAN.
- NSE website: The exchange’s IPO bid verification page also lets you check using your PAN and application number.
Your broker app (Zerodha, Groww, Upstox and others) usually shows the result too, sometimes a little later than the registrar.
If you don’t get shares, the blocked amount in your bank account under UPI mandate should be released. The refund process is scheduled to start on October 27.
Why Retail Odds Are Tough This Time
In a big IPO, SEBI rules require that retail allotment is spread so that as many applicants as possible get the minimum lot, chosen through a lottery when the category is oversubscribed. At about 2.7 times retail subscription, the rough idea is that many applicants will miss out.
Applying for more lots in the retail category doesn’t really improve your chances much. What can help is applying from different family members’ PANs and demat accounts, as each valid application counts separately. Multiple bids from the same PAN get rejected.
Reliance shareholders who applied in the separate shareholder quota get a second shot, though that quota was also heavily oversubscribed.
Jio Platforms IPO GMP: What the Grey Market Is Saying
The grey market premium (GMP) has stayed firmly positive. Free Press Journal reported a GMP of ₹245 on October 20, implying a possible listing near ₹1,364, about 22% above the upper price band. Livemint’s latest report also pointed to listing gains of roughly 22%. Other trackers show slightly lower figures, around ₹220.
Remember what GMP is: an unofficial, unregulated number from informal trading. It changes daily and has been wrong before. It is not a promise of what the stock will open at on October 28.
Background: Why Jio’s IPO Is a Big Deal
At ₹30,213 crore, this beats Hyundai Motor India’s ₹27,870 crore issue from 2024 to become the country’s biggest IPO. At the upper price band, Jio is valued at around ₹10.3 lakh crore, according to Free Press Journal, which could make it one of India’s most valuable listed companies.
The whole issue is fresh shares, with no offer for sale by existing holders. Up to ₹27,500 crore of the money is set aside to repay or prepay borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom operator.
The company reported FY26 revenue of ₹1.46 lakh crore and net profit of ₹30,049 crore, up from ₹26,109 crore a year earlier. It had about 533.3 million subscribers as of June 2026. Management has pointed to 5G, home broadband, AI and cloud as the next growth drivers.
What We Don’t Know Yet
- The exact retail allotment ratio, which will be clear only once the basis of allotment is published.
- The actual listing price. That will be set by trading on October 28, not by the grey market.
- The final official subscription numbers, as trackers differ slightly.
What This Means for You
- Keep your PAN and application number handy for Monday.
- If not allotted, check that your UPI block is released by October 27. If it isn’t, contact your bank or broker.
- If allotted, the shares should show in your demat account by October 27, and you can trade from October 28.
- Be careful of WhatsApp or Telegram groups selling “guaranteed allotment” or GMP tips. Allotment is decided by the registrar’s process, not by anyone you pay.

Our Take
A 70-times QIB book tells you how big institutions feel about Jio. But the retail number, under three times, is a reminder that small investors were more cautious about a ₹10 lakh crore valuation. Whatever happens on listing day, Jio’s debut will set the tone for India’s IPO pipeline for the rest of the year.
