Large tree falls on power lines, causing thousands to lose power in Durham – WRAL

A large tree fell across multiple power lines in Durham early Wednesday morning, knocking out power to more than 25,000 people.
The outage is affecting customers south of the Durham Freeway. At 5 a.m., the outage was down to 7,000 customers. At 7 a.m., 6,000 were without power.

Several traffic lights along Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Fayetteville Road were out. 
The tree fell along Bridgewood Drive. Sky 5 flew overhead, showing the tree across multiple powerlines in a wooded area.
The WRAL Breaking News Tracker first arrived around 4 a.m., when Duke Energy crews and firefighters were on scene. Durham crews said the tree fell on a main transmission line that runs behind the neighborhood and took down three substations.
According to Duke Energy crews,  two substations have been repaired, and more crews are on the way to make the final repairs. Power is estimated to be fully restored by 1 p.m.
