The United States men's national team is taking on Turkey as it concludes play in the 2026 World Cup group stage.
It has been confirmed that Mauricio Pochettino's side will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32.
Christian Pulisic is on the bench again today as he works his way back from a calf injury.
28’ Turkey 1-1 USMNT
Ozcan was fine after his treatment and we have restarted again after the drinks break. The guys are right, that tackle was high up the shin and not nice to see.
The good news is we have the first yellow card amnesty after the group stage, so those tallies all reset from here and you would have to get two bookings before the semifinals to be suspended for a game.
Providing everyone gets through this one without a second yellow at the tournament.
Or indeed, a red card.
It was a really nasty challenge from Berhalter. Not necessarily deliberate but nasty all the same. Probably not quite a red card, but the last thing Pochettino will want to see is his players picking up unnecessary cards.
Particularly those of the red variety.
This is where FIFA needs to tweak its hydration break rules and allow the referee to call for the break when they want.
Instead, we get a one or two-minute injury stoppage. And then a few minutes later, we’ll get another three-minute stoppage.
It’s silly.
24’ Turkey 1-1 USMNT
Hydration break time. The game got a bit bitty there, with Turkey pressing hard and the USMNT struggling to make progress.
Hopefully the break is a bit of a reset.
Obviously early here but if this game remains as physically combative as it is from Turkey, and the ref can’t rein it in, then this may not be the game to force Pulisic into in the name of 30 minutes of fitness.
This is a Turkey team with nothing to lose and that could spell future trouble for the U.S. if Pulisic ends up on the wrong side of some hard challenges.
This is just my opinion as a stateless person observing this whole thing but the USMT home kit is the best of the competition because there can be no confusion about who it represents.
The second kit, worn today? Could be anyone.
If they are going for denim it has to be a faded light-wash.
A weird script semi-repeating: When the US and Turkey met in June 2025, the Americans scored a minute in, only for Arda Guler to equalize.
What does that mean? Absolutely nothing. Just a bizarre coincidence.
(Turkey went on to win that game 2-1.)
20’ Turkey 1-1 USMNT
Boos as referee Mustapha Ghorbal gives a free kick after Sebastian Berhalter is very late on Ozcan. That’s a nasty challenge and the Turkey player needs treatment.
The yellow card comes out too. That’s the game’s first booking.
18’ Turkey 1-1 USMNT
Hmm. A long ball for Pepi to chase. His run is excellent. The USMNT then tries to build up its attack but no one is moving and it’s all a bit static.
Gio Reyna then needlessly overhits his pass for Weah and concedes a throw.
Deary me, that’s sloppy.
For anyone counting, that is the first Turkey goal at this tournament on its *checks notes* 63rd shot.
Turkey strikes back — and frankly, I could sense it coming. After the opening burst of intensity from the Americans, you could see the gap between the U.S. first 11 and this group starting to show.
The U.S. was a bit sloppy. And the second-string defense just got picked apart.

Beautiful counter as Guler is found in the box by Yilmaz, and then finishes well, but the USMNT defense is a bit of a mess in that transition.
At least the totally changed XI gives everyone an excuse there.

9’ Turkey 0-1 USMNT
Turkey boss Vincenzo Montella looks nervous. He should be.
USMNT dominating the ball, three shots on goal already and two on target.
What’s not to like.
That has to go down as the worst start to a game you’ll ever see a team make.
Good on the USMNT for cashing in but Turkey looked like it was going to concede from the first kick.
It’s thrown the towel in.
4’ Turkey 0-1 USMNT
It was an early corner, won as Cakir got down well to deny Trusty’s shot.
But it only delayed the inevitable. Corner swung in from Berhalter, Trusty free at the back post. He even has the time to take a touch.
Then he lets fly and his shot is in.
Incredible.
This atmosphere is insane. Crowd is super into it from where I am standing. Mark McKenzie and the players waving their arms.
And the reaction after Trusty’s goal. No letdown here even with the result not impacting anything in the group.
World Cups are easy when you score in the first few minutes every time.
