An area of low pressure with an accompanying cold front will approach and pass through later today & tonight, bringing our next chance for showers and a few thunderstorms with it.
Cloud cover has been increasing across our area through most of the morning so far, and that is a trend that will likely continue as a warm front approaches. A few scattered showers have also been noted closer to I-35, so you might see a few raindrops on the windshield driving into work.
Temperatures this morning will start out in the upper-50F’s to lower-60F’s, with dew points on the lower side, at least for now. Winds are light and will remain light through much of the day, with a southerly winds between 5 to 10 mph. By this afternoon, temperatures should have an easy time reaching the mid-70F’s, with a few upper-70F’s possible across North Iowa.
Cloud cover will stick around through much of the day as dew points climb into muggier territory ahead of tonight’s cold front. This will moisten up the air and destabilize it slightly, though instability is not expected to build much, largely due to a good deal of cloud cover. This will keep severe weather chances rather low. There are, however, better chances for a round or two of showers & storms later this afternoon (after 3-4 PM) and evening, so if you have any outdoor plans, you’ll want to keep a close eye on the radar.
Rain chances continue tonight, but will gradually wind down into early Wednesday morning. Dew points will remain a bit muggy, as temperatures only drop to around 60F or so.
Low pressure will still have some slight influence over our weather heading into Wednesday, although rain chances, if any, will be very low. There is a far greater chance for showers and thunderstorms to our north and east through Wednesday afternoon, where the better forcing and moisture will be. The best chance for any precipitation locally will be primarily north of I-90 and east of I-35 during the early-mid afternoon.
High temperatures will not be impacted much by the passage of tonight’s cold front, topping out in the mid-upper 70F’s. Dew points will decrease to a more comfortable range by later in the afternoon as well. Winds will be on the breezy side, between 10 to 15 mph, gusting up to 25 mph at times.
