Ireland v India T20Is: Tucker named permanent Ireland captain in T20 format ahead of India series – BBC

Lorcan Tucker combines wicket-keeping and top-order batter roles for Ireland
Lorcan Tucker has been named as permanent Ireland T20I captain before the forthcoming two-match series against India at Stormont on 26 and 28 July (14:30 BST starts).
The wicketkeeper-batter will lead an injury-hit squad missing six key players for the fixtures in Belfast.
He has previously captained Ireland on two occasions and has been vice-captain since 2025.
The 29-year-old is an experienced performer for Ireland across all formats of the game, having racked up 159 caps since making his debut in 2016.
Matthew Hollard and Jai Moondra receive their first Ireland call-ups and Reuben Wilson his first T20I call-up after making his first Test appearance against New Zealand recently.
Six players are unavailable for selection through injury – Josh Little (stress fracture), Mark Adair (rectus muscle tear), Paul Stirling (torn calf muscle), Curtis Campher (hand fracture), Barry McCarthy (complete ACL tear) and Jordan Neill (shoulder and foot injuries).
Tucker's appointment as skipper for the T20 game, means that Ireland have different captains for the three different formats of the game, with Andrew Balbirnie skipper in the Test arena and Paul Stirling in one-day internationals.
Tucker described his appointment as "a great privilege".
"There's a feeling of responsibility to the playing group and organisation to represent them well and also to all the other captains who came before me.
"My approach to the captaincy is to lead from within and by example. I'd like to think I have good relationships with all the staff and players and can act with honesty and empathy.
"I feel like it's my job to bring the best out of them and give them the opportunity to do amazing things for themselves and us as a team."
Ireland squad for India T20I matches: Lorcan Tucker (capt), Ross Adair, Ben Calitz, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Stephen Doheny, Matthew Humphreys, Gavin Hoey, Matthew Hollard, Liam McCarthy, Jai Moondra, Harry Tector, Tim Tector, Reuben Wilson.
