Iran Judiciary: Death Toll from Recent War Against Iran Reaches 3,519 – WANA News Agency

WANA (Jun 22) – Iran’s Judiciary spokesperson has announced that the death toll from the recent war imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran has risen to 3,519, adding that the identification process for all victims was completed in the shortest possible time through the extensive efforts of forensic specialists and the use of advanced genetic testing.

Speaking about the latest casualty figures, Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said that according to the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization, 3,002 of the victims were men and 517 were women.

He extended condolences to the families of those killed and paid tribute to the individuals who lost their lives during the recent attacks and military confrontations. Jahangir said the Legal Medicine Organization mobilized its crisis-management teams from the earliest hours of the war, deploying forensic physicians, DNA experts, and identification specialists to begin the process of recovering and identifying victims.

Referring to the severity of some of the attacks and explosions, Jahangir noted that in several cases, human remains were recovered in fragmented condition, requiring highly specialized procedures for identification, documentation, and the issuance of burial permits.

According to the spokesperson, forensic personnel across Iran worked around the clock on a voluntary basis to identify the victims. He said each province was able to carry out the identification process independently, eliminating the need to transfer personnel from other parts of the country.

Jahangir added that in cases requiring DNA analysis, specialized teams traveled directly to the homes of family members to collect samples, sparing grieving families the burden of traveling to forensic centers.

He further stated that in Tehran, the identification process was conducted in cooperation with Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences. DNA test results were available within approximately 48 hours in the capital and within a maximum of 72 hours in other provinces.

The Judiciary spokesperson emphasized that all services related to the identification and verification of victims were provided free of charge. He said the primary objective was to expedite the identification process, return the remains to families as quickly as possible, and help ease the suffering of those who had lost loved ones.
