A Border Patrol agent shot an armed person near the U.S.-Canada border in Pittsburg, New Hampshire, on Sunday morning, according to Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott.
Scott said that initial reports indicated the person fired at the agent, and the agent returned fire. The agent was not injured.
The person was struck and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Their condition at this time is not clear.
“The FBI Boston Field Office will be investigating the incident. CBP is cooperating fully with investigators. For more information, we refer you to the FBI,” Scott said in a statement.

The FBI confirmed there was a shooting around 1 a.m. Sunday in a statement to WMUR on Sunday. The FBI also said its information indicated the person fired at the agent and the agent returned fire.
The FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire are investigating.
According to the FBI, its Evidence Response Team responded to the scene to collect evidence.
The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office also told WMUR-TV on Sunday that it is aware of and monitoring the investigation.
On Sunday, New England 511 showed Route 3 was closed from the intersection of Idlewilde Road to the Canadian border crossing.
The Coos County sheriff told WMUR Sunday morning that he had no additional information to share and that the investigation was ongoing.
