One person has been taken to a hospital to receive treatment after a barn fire in Casco spread to and badly damaged a home.
Casco Firefighter Adam Madura said the barn caught fire early Wednesday afternoon and spread to the attached home at 424 Poland Spring Road.
Photos and videos shared with Maine’s Total Coverage show that the building was engulfed in flames and that the fire was producing heavy smoke.
“We had a little bit of manpower issues on the way here, and then the water supply. Luckily, we have two water supplies close that we were able to get a tanker shuttle going on,” Madura said. “But manpower and water were our initial issues, and then just the volume of fire on arrival.”
Madura said one civilian was transported to a hospital and one firefighter was evaluated at the scene.
All of the animals that were in the barn were rescued, Madura said.
The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
The Cumberland County Regional Communications Center said Poland Spring Road was closed between Edwards Road and Webbs Mills Road while crews worked to extinguish the fire.
