And it’s halftime at Monterrey Stadium with Sweden leading Tunisia 2-1.

Tunisia cuts its deficit in half as Omar Rekik scores in the 43rd minute to trail Sweden 2-1 with the halftime break closing in.

Alexander Isak gives Sweden a 2-0 lead with his marker in the 30th minute. Sweden has had possession of the ball for 60 per cent of the first half hour.

The colourful pre-game ceremonies and anthems are in the books. And Sweden needed only seven minutes to keep the footy fiesta going as 22-year-old Yasin Ayari scored the game’s first goal against Tunisia.

Excitement is building for the opening kickoff of tonight’s Group F game between Sweden and Tunisia at Monterrey Stadium in Guadalupe, Mexico. It’s the final game in a four-match day.

Ivory Coast holds on for eight-plus minutes of second-half stoppage time to register a 1-0 win over Ecuador. Germany won the day’s other Group E match, thumping Curacao 7-1 in Houston.

Amad Diallo scores in the 90th minute to give Ivory Coast a 1-0 lead over Ecuador. For two teams with superb defensive records in qualifying, this match has been open and full of great scoring chances. Ecuador hit the crossbar twice in the first half, and Ivory Coast hit the bar once in the second half.

Those blue bags Japan fans waved in a frenzy after their team got a late tying goal against the Netherlands today were then used after the final whistle to maintain what has become a cleansing World Cup tradition.
The Samurai Blue fans cleaned up before they left Dallas Stadium on Sunday, picking up trash from the stands after Japan’s 2-2 draw in Group F action.

Players from the Ivory Coast and Ecuador are minutes away from opening their World Cup accounts as ceremonies for the Group E match conclude at Philadelphia Stadium, which is the home of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.

the Netherlands and Japan finished tied 2-2 in their Group F game. Virgil van Dijk and Crysencio Summerville scored for the Dutch while Keito Nakamura and Daichi Kamada countered for Japan. Kamada’s goal at the 89-minute mark tied the contest.

Germany earns 7-1 victory over Curaçao in their Group E stage match. The Germans had 26 shots and 11 shots on target while Curaçao had a total of six shots and two on target.

Germany has increased its lead to 6-1 in the second half against Curacoa. Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav scored the other goals for the Germans.

Germany leads Curacoa 3-1 at halftime in its Group E game in Houston. Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck and Kai Havertz scored for the Germans while Livano Comenencia replied for Curacoa.

Panama’s World Cup preparations attracted an unexpected visitor a few days ago when New York Yankees infielder Jose Caballero attended the team’s training camp in New Tecumseth, Ont. The Panamanian shortstop, in Toronto for the Yankees’ weekend series against the Blue Jays that wraps up today, spent an afternoon watching practice and meeting players before sharing dinner with the squad. Caballero said he plans to keep tabs on Panama’s World Cup opener against Ghana on Wednesday while the Yankees host the Chicago White Sox in New York.

The temporary natural grass field installed for the World Cup at Vancouver’s BC Place received strong reviews from players following Australia’s 2-0 victory over Turkey last night. The surface, part of a $196-million stadium upgrade, was laid over the venue’s artificial turf and is supported by specialized irrigation, ventilation and UV-light systems. Australian goalkeeper Patrick Beach called the pitch “great quality,” while teammate Aiden O’Neill described it as “unbelievable,” and Turkey captain Hakan Calhanoglu said it was in “perfect condition.”

Canada is in Vancouver today for a rest day following Friday’s 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina in its World Cup opener in Toronto. The Canadians sit in a four-way tie atop Group B after the opening round of matches. Qatar’s stoppage-time equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Switzerland on Saturday left Canada, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland all on one point. Canada hits the pitch tomorrow at the team’s training centre at the University of British Columbia.

Day 4 of the World Cup features the first matches for Groups E and F, with Germany, the Netherlands, Ecuador and Sweden all opening their tournaments. World Cup debutant Curaçao gets a baptism by fire against Germany, while the Netherlands and Japan meet in what could be one of the most competitive opening-round matchups. Ecuador carries a 19-match unbeaten streak into its game against Ivory Coast before Sweden closes the day against Tunisia in Monterrey.
