A 20-year-old Taunton man died after he was pulled from a pond in Stoughton, Massachusetts, on Thursday afternoon.
A report of a boater in distress came in from Ames Pond at 2:33 p.m., according to Stoughton police.
Officials said Anderson Teixeira Goncalves was canoeing on the pond with friends when the boat tipped over.
The victim never resurfaced.
Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey’s Office said that crews located the man after about an hour and a half of searching the waters.
He was pulled from the water and taken by the Canton Fire Department to an area hospital, where he later died.
Officials previously told NewsCenter 5 the victim was 19 years old.
Highland Street was closed between West Street and Canton Street to give crews a chance to investigate. The roadway has since been reopened.
The Massachusetts State Police Dive Team, the Easton, Avon, and Canton fire departments, the Plymouth County Dive Team, the Massachusetts Environmental Police, the Metro-LEC Drone Unit, and the Mansfield Emergency Management Agency all assisted Stoughton authorities at the scene.
