New 'Transformers' Movie Announced as Franchise Future Becomes Clearer – MovieWeb

The Transformers franchise has had a turbulent history in theaters. Michael Bay’s series of films have become the most widely known iteration of the hit toy franchise created by Hasbro, with the filmmaker directing five entries before stepping away. The massive box office success of the movies (cumulatively earning $4.8 billion) would lead Paramount to continue producing and distributing Transformers movies without Bay, though to varying levels of financial success. Travis Knight directed a Bumblebee prequel movie in 2018, which would be well received critically and gross $467 million worldwide.
The last mainline live-action Transformers movie, subtitled Rise of the Beasts, would barely break even with a worldwide total of $441 million, becoming the lowest grossing live-action entry. When pairing that with the animated film Transformers One, directed by Josh Cooley, underperforming at the box office, the future of the franchise seemed uncertain. However, an exclusive report from The Wrap has revealed that Paramount and Hasbro aren’t done yet, as It: Welcome to Derry writer Jason Fuchs has signed on to write an untitled Transformers script. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto and Don Murphy are all signed on as producers, with Steven Spielberg and Hasbro tapped as executive producers.
This upcoming mystery Transformers movie from Fuch’s isn’t the only one in development, as it was previously reported that Derek Connolly (known for co-writing Jurassic World) was tapped to write the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie that was teased at the end of Rise of the Beasts. The Wrap also notes in its exclusive report that the movie will continue the story where Anthony Ramos’ character is offered a job with G.I. Joe. This makes the story of the movies more interesting, as it was previously thought that the crossover movie that was already announced would be the direct continuation of Rise of the Beasts.
Hasbro is looking to double down on two of its franchises, combining Transformers and G.I. Joe through two separate movies. While this is just speculation at this point, it seems that the larger crossover that was already announced will more than likely have more of a focus on new characters, whereas this untitled film will be more of a continuation of the story that started in Rise of the Beasts. Fuchs has already established himself as a screenwriter whose stories are a hit at the box office, having had a hand in movies that grossed nearly $2 billion at the box office.
Fuchs is also currently developing a live-action adaptation of the popular manga My Hero Academia for Netflix. It’s unknown whether director Steven Caple Jr (who also directed Creed II) will be returning for either of the Transformers movies that are currently in the works. The Transformers franchise has struggled at the box office since Michael Bay’s departure, and it’s clear that Hasbro and Paramount are looking for box office appeal in the form of a crossover. Whether that means audiences get a G.I. Joe film separate from Transformers remains to be seen.

I don’t care what anybody say please and I mean please Don’t bring Michael Bay back I had enough of the mess he started . Please start over reboot

We don’t need Michael Bay back, hot women, Shia, G.I. Joe,.or any of that rubbish. Travis Knight showed everyone where the series needs to be. His designs on Cybertron is what we should have got. Or just give us a remake of Transformers the movie with major story changes. Why is it so difficult for these people to make a good Transformers movie. Take a few pointers ftom tthe marvel movies from phase 1 -3.
Bring Bay back one time and finish the Quintessa storyline. Nothing I hate more is a cliffhanger and no follow up.
As much as he’s hated by many, I think this franchise needs Bay. Bring him back, hold him back from going overboard like in part 5, and they can start makin big bucks again. Let him throw a new Megan Fox in there, hell, if ya can manage to bring back SHIA, u’ll get kids that grew up with those movies that are now in their 20s.
Please dear Gods no.

His Transformers movies got worse each time. We don’t need a worse The Last Knight.
I thought the last trans movie was good but can we go back to hot actresses. The animated transformers one was better than I expected
The idea of a transformers and GI Joe crossover sounded stupid to me at first, but the comics have been pretty good so far.

In fact if they took some elements of the comics it could work
I mean, most of the Bay movies were basically that without the flamboyant names and costumes of the Joes. It was always more military + Transformers, and not just straight Transformers. Even Bumblebee had that going for it with Cena’s character.

The major problem adding actual Joes into the movies is needing to juggle a metric butt ton of other personalities on top of the Transformers, who’ve largely had little by way of actual personalities anyway. So I’m really unsure how kitchensinking the properties together on screen is going to work out for them. You can draw as juch as you like and make it eork, screen time needs a much bigger budget, for realistically less real-estate
