At the SPIEF Summit in St. Petersburg, Kalli Purie, Vice Chairperson and Executive Editor-in-Chief of TV Today Network, shared powerful insights on the future of journalism in the age of artificial intelligence.
Speaking during the panel discussion on ‘The Limits of Artificial Intelligence in the Media’, Purie highlighted India’s growing leadership in AI adoption and the country’s potential to shape innovative AI applications for the future.
Kalli Purie also spoke about the importance of preserving original, human-driven journalism through initiatives like “handmade” reporting, where journalists focus on firsthand observations rather than generic content.
She emphasized that while algorithms are designed to maximize engagement and profits, newsrooms operate on values such as moderation, calibration, and editorial judgment.
Explaining TV Today Network’s “AI Sandwich” philosophy, she underlined that AI should enhance efficiency, but final editorial decisions must always remain in human hands.
