If you are looking for a sweet treat in South Carolina today, June 5, you are in luck, it is National Donut Day. And there are plenty of deals and freebies happening.
National Donut Day has a long history, dating back to World War I.
Established by The Salvation Army in 1938, the day honors the Donut Lassies and Donut Girls, groups of women who traveled to France during World War I to serve donuts and other snacks to soldiers.
“The story of the Donut Lassies is one of extraordinary courage,” Commissioner Merle Heatwole, national commander of The Salvation Army, said in a news release. “The women who traveled to the front lines of a world war displayed compassion and bravery. On this 88th National Donut Day, we honor their remarkable legacy alongside the veterans who have served this nation, reminding ourselves to carry that same spirit of joyful service into every community we serve.”
In South Carolina, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin’, and other places have plenty of deals on Friday, June 5, to celebrate with free donuts and sweet offers.
North Carolina-based Krispy Kreme has a long history of celebrating National Donut Day by offering customers a free doughnut (the spelling they use for the sweet treat).
“National Doughnut Day is one of our most joyful traditions – a moment to celebrate the doughnuts people love, the guests who inspire us every day, and the simple happiness that comes from sharing something sweet,” said Alison Holder, chief brand & product officer at Krispy Kreme, in a news release. “We’re excited to welcome everyone in on Friday to enjoy a free Krispy Kreme favorite and celebrate with us.”
And don’t worry, you don’t have to buy anything to get one. But it is limited to one per guest, and the offer is available in-shop and the drive-thru.
If you need to feed a crowd, you can also get a dozen glazed doughnuts for $2 when you purchase another dozen.
The national donut chain is offering a free donut with the purchase of any beverage at its locations nationwide. Dunkin’ is also bringing back its merch collab with Stoney Clover Lane.
It will be available online and at select Stoney Clover Lane retail locations starting Friday, June 5, at 10 a.m. ET.
“National Donut Day is one of our favorite traditions at Dunkin’, and this year we’re making it even sweeter for our guests,” Dunkin’ Chief Marketing Officer Jill Nelson said in a statement. “From bringing back our free donut offer to expanding our Stoney Clover Lane collaboration and giving Dunkin’ Rewards members more ways to join in, we’re celebrating all week long.”
7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members can get unlimited classic glazed doughnuts for 50 cents each at participating 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes stores nationwide on June 5.
Customers can also order 7-Select mini doughnut packs for $1.
Rewards members can snag a free donut from the in-store bakery (no purchase required) on June 5 at participating locations. It is a single-use offer available in the myLidl app.
Scooter’s Coffee customers can order three mini glazed cake doughnuts for $1.
Sheetz is keeping National Donut Day going all weekend long. Between June 5- 9, customers can nab a free donut with any food or beverage purchase of $5 or more. This is a single-use offer that can be redeemed in the chain’s app.
