Cuba experienced a shake on the afternoon of Monday, June 8, as a preliminary 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit off the Western coast of the island.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake was reported at around 1 p.m. ET. The 6.1-magnitude earthquake was reported at a depth of 6.2 miles with an epicenter about 65 miles northwest of Mantua, Cuba.
Spectrum News said that vibrations from Monday’s earthquake were felt by local reporters at a facility in St. Petersburg, Florida. According to the USGS, people from across Florida have reported vibrations, with reports being received from Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Sarasota and areas.
As of 2:50 p.m. ET, the National Weather Service’s Tsunami Warning System has not reported any warnings following the earthquake.
