A 35-year-old woman was discovered dead at her home in Gautampuri, Seelampur, North East Delhi, early on January 31, 2026. The Seelampur Police Station responded promptly after receiving information about an alleged assault. Upon arrival, police found the woman’s body, which was taken to JPC Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Preliminary findings indicate she may have suffered a fatal head injury caused by a heavy object.
Initial police reports identify the woman’s husband as the main suspect. Investigators revealed that the accused reportedly called a friend shortly after the incident, admitting he had slapped his wife and she lost consciousness, and requested the friend take her to a doctor. After making the call, the husband allegedly fled the scene and is currently at large. Police have registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and multiple teams have been deployed to locate and arrest the suspect as the investigation continues.
Separately, a couple was arrested in West Bengal in connection with the murder of Delhi University Assistant Professor Debosmita Paul, who was found dead in her flat at Satyam Apartments, Vasundhara Enclave, on June 4. The accused are being brought to Delhi for further investigation, officials stated on Sunday.
According to police, New Ashok Nagar Police Station received a PCR call at around 2:35 pm on June 4 from the victim’s sister, Devarati Paul, 49. She reported her sister had been murdered and was found lying dead inside the locked flat. Devarati explained the flat had been locked from the outside that morning and the deceased was unresponsive to repeated phone calls, prompting her to break in.
A crime team was dispatched to the scene for a thorough inspection. Forensic samples were collected, and key exhibits seized after photography and videography of the site. Police noted the deceased had lived alone for the past four to five years and primarily used online delivery services for essentials.
