The 2nd edition of “Mango Magic Festival: Promotion and Tasting Event of Indian Mangoes” was hosted in Seattle, United States, June 5, 2027. The Indian Mango promotion event also featured a special luncheon with dishes of Indian cuisine made using the seven varieties of Indian mangoes on display, the Indian Consulate in Seattle said in its social media post on the event.
More than a hundred leading importers of Indian fruits, including massive US retailers like Costco, participated and tasted seven premium varieties of Indian mangoes on display, including Alphonso and Kesar from Maharashtra, Banganpalli and Himayat from Andhra Pradesh, Langra and Dussehri from Uttar Pradesh and Ripe Rajapuri from Gujarat, Newsonair.gov.in reported.
“India’s Mango Magic sweetens Seattle!” declared the Indian Consulate on X.com @IndiainSeattle. High profile attendees included Lt. Governor of Washington Denny Heck, Washington State Senators Tina Orwall, Manka Dhingra, and Vandana Slatter,  as well as Vice President of Costco Wholesale Bob Husky.
Huskey, said that they recently started selling Indian Kesar Mangoes, and they have been selling faster than they can bring them back in.
Washington State Senator Manka Dhingra said that these relationships based on food make trade, economics and business relationships really thrive.
The Consulate General of India in Seattle initiated the introduction of Indian Mangoes in Seattle in July last year and partnered with various stakeholders both in India and the Greater Seattle area in an attempt to bring new premium varieties of Indian mangoes to big retail stores like Costco for American consumers.
“These efforts received a significant boost following a meeting with the Costco CEO in April this year, after which ‘Bhagwa’ variety pomegranates from Maharashtra were introduced at Costco stores in the region, subsequently followed by Kesar mangoes,” the government news site said.
India is currently the world’s largest producer of mangoes, with an annual output of over 26 million metric tons and more than 1,000 named varieties.
Indian mango exports to the United States, which resumed in 2007 after an 18-year suspension, have grown rapidly, the Indian Consulate noted. Export value reached $10 million in FY 2023-24, up 130% from $4.36 million in FY 2022-23. U.S. mango imports are projected to grow by a further 7% in 2026, and the total U.S. mango import market itself crossed $1 billion in value in 2025.
In his recent edition of Mann Ki Baat program, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke about the rich diversity of Indian mangoes and praised India’s mango farmers for their journey from the village to the global market.
“… the Mango Magic Event in Seattle today further amplified the potential of regional mango varieties from India and their potential for exports and consumption by wider global audiences in the US Pacific Northwest region,” the Seattle Consulate said.
The event was hosted in partnership Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
