Throughout this stretch of heat, New York state officials are warning about price gouging.
Attorney General Letitia James is urging New Yorkers to watch out for businesses selling essential goods at excessively high prices during emergencies.
This includes water, food, air conditioning units, generators, batteries and transportation options.
James is urging anyone who sees this to contact her office and file a complaint.
She is also asking people to report any instances in which workers’ safety is jeopardized by the heat.
"As New Yorkers face some of the hottest weather of the year, there is no excuse for businesses to excessively raise prices or jeopardize workers’ safety," James said. "My office is on the lookout for anyone putting New Yorkers at risk during this heatwave. I encourage everyone to plan appropriately for the heat and report price gouging and any other violations of the law to my office."
